HB Ice Cream Sunday/Funday 2009HB Ice Cream Party in Dundrum Town Centre 17th May 2009 ![]() Down Syndrome Ireland in partnership with HB Ice Cream, the Dundrum Town Centre management team, and 2fm radio, hosted the annual HB Ice Cream Party for the third year in the Dundrum Town Centre on Sunday 17th May. The bad weather couldn't dampen the spirits or the great day that was had by all. The party kicked off at 2pm with speeches and then entertainment from four different Elvis'. We would like to thank all those who came out to support the day, from the town centre staff to all the volunteers who gave up their time to support DSI, and of course to the customers who dug deep and helped raise over €6,000 for our organisation. We would also like to thank the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Eibhlin Byrne who came along and supported us on the day. ****************************
Would you like to support the 7th HB Ice Cream Sunday/Funday for Down Syndrome Ireland by hosting an ice-cream party with FREE HB Hazelbrook ice-cream and raise vital funds to develop early intervention services for young children, under the age of six, with Down syndrome? Early intervention comprises the provision of services to children aged 0-6 who have or are at risk of developing a special need that may affect their development. Early intervention services refer to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy and special education help given to pre school children. This year's campaign aims to raise €500,000 in funds to allow Down Syndrome Ireland to hire an Early Development Officer to work with young children with Down syndrome and to expand their early intervention services across the country, including a "train the trainer" programme at branch level. The funds raised will also go towards funding and facilitating the setting up of a special interest group for speech and language therapists working with clients with Down syndrome. This special interest group will promote best practice, share information and aim for high clinical standards. Speaking about the importance of early intervention, Ms. Mary O'Reilly, President of Down Syndrome Ireland said: "If these supports are in place as early as possible, much of the frustration, negative attitudes, missed opportunities for the child and family and subsequently society can be minimised, if not prevented".
