Purpose of the Acts
In 2004, the Irish Government launched the National Disability Strategy as a framework of positive action measures for improving services for people with disabilities, and supporting their participation in Irish society. Two pieces of legislation – the EPSEN Act 2004 and the Disability Act 2005- form an integral part of this strategy. Both Acts set out a new approach to assessing the needs of eligible persons with disabilities and / or special educational needs for health and / or educational services. In addition, The Citizen’s Information Act 2007 provides for the introduction of advocacy services for people with disabilities.
All three Acts can be downloaded from the Oireachtas website.
