Established in 1971, Down syndrome Ireland has pioneered the approach of developing the abilities of persons with Down syndrome. Representing people with Down syndrome their parents and families, we are committed to the acceptance of Down syndrome and focusing on independence and sustainability for persons with Down syndrome.

Our mission is to expand the awareness of Down syndrome and develop the necessary life supports for Health, Early Intervention,, Education, Counseling and Independent Living needs.
We place an emphasis on "Inclusion" in all areas of society, from early intervention, through education, training for employment and the rewards of independent adult living.

Down Syndrome Ireland is the largest organisation representing people with an intellectual disability in Ireland.
We work with Health and Education professionals providing advice and direction on the latest Down syndrome developments. As a non-governmental organisation, we bridge the gap in providing advice and direction to the basic and critical support required.

Our greatest success has been the creation of our "Virtual Resource Services Centre". Currently our head office team include the ‘NRT' supported by our administration and fund development staff.
We are further assisted by a network of 25 regional branches and a panel of volunteers supporting the mission of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Our next challenge is to witness the establishment of a physican "National Down Syndrome Centre".
This ambitious project will allow us coordinate, develop and focus on the expansion of our work. We see a flagship facility, a "Centre of Excellence", providing the necessary infrastructure and services for a broader community and for future generations yet to come. We want to move the focus from "needs" to "abilities", and harness those abilities.
We have started the Journey, we now invite you to join and support our mission and "Share the Journey" with us.
