‘Bac is Bua' follows the lives of two families as they deal with the day to day issues of living with Down syndrome. The programme aims to raise awareness about the abilities of individuals with Down syndrome who both achieve and succeed and cast aside the stereotype that society has placed upon them.Róisín de Búrca lives in Lettermore, Co Galway. She comes from a family of nine. Having sat her Leaving Certificate and completed a third level course in at GTI Galway, she has recently landed a marketing job with Muintereas in Lettermore. This documentary follows Róisín during this new phase of her life, giving a fascinating insight into her interests, abilities, frustrations and her outlook on life as a twenty year old growing up in Connemara with Down syndrome.
Elliryn McPhillips is 4 years old. She was born with a hole in her heart and her parents went through a lot of turmoil in the first year of her life. She is now a healthy four year old, who is currently attending school in Belfast. The McPhillips family have become immersed in everything Down syndrome related since Elliryn was born and spend most of their time helping others come to terms with the disability through their organisation "Families with Ups and Downs". In this programme Elliryn's parents, Conor and Yanahir, speak candidly about their experiences of having a child with Down syndrome and describe how Elliryn has enhanced their lives.
