'4th December 2008 - Team Ireland returning from the World Swimming Championships celebrating their success'
Our 19 swimmers arrived home on the 4th December from the World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships. All in great spirits after coming 5th in the world out of 23 participating nations. Congratulations to the swimmers, their coach and Manager. Thanks also to the Chapereones and the family members who travelled out to support the team. Organising the Ireland team is an enormous undertaking involving many months of hard work and daunting logistics. This was all done in a voluntary capacity by Margaret Carroll and I know you will all join me in congratulating her and in thanking her for devoting so much of her spare time in organising everthing and the great success of the trip.

Coolmine Leisure Centre

We had a very successful swimming championships this year with 19 counties represented. That has been the best representation from our branches to date. It is wonderful to see the ability of all our swimmers and how each year the standard improves. This year for the first time we are putting the results up on our website so that everybody can see what can be achieved by our young people.
From these results a team will be selected for the International and World Championships in Portugal in November this year. The team selected will have to meet the qualifying times (which are much faster than ours).
For more information on this event see www.dsiso.org. The selected team will be notified in writing by Friday April 18th and will be listed on our website.
